Establishment and development of the Committee in 1952-2024

The Geographical Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences was established by resolution of the Scientific Secretariat of the Presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences no. 95/52 of December 16, 1952. The headquarters of the Committee was located at Krakowskie Przedmieście 30 in Warsaw. On March 26, 1960, the Committee changed its name to the Committee of Geographical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The work of the Committee was headed by: prof. Stanisław Leszczycki (1952 – 1965), prof. Kazimierz Dziewoński (1966-1968), prof. Mieczysław Klimaszewski (1969-1971), prof. Rajmund Galon (1972 – 1980), prof. Kazimierz Dziewoński (1981-1983), prof. Stefan Kozarski (1984-1989), prof. Zbyszko Chojnicki (1990-2002), prof. Stanisław Liszewski (2003 – 2006), prof. Andrzej Kostrzewski (2007 – 2015), prof. Marek Degórski (2016-2024).
