The Year of Polish Geography 2018

2018 was the year of Polish Geography. One of the co-organizers of the celebration of this event, so important for the environment, was the Committee of Geographical Sciences, and the events were coordinated by the Steering Committee, bringing together representatives of the university, the Polish Geographical Society and the Committee of Geographical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences, headed by Prof. Marek Degórski, Chairman of KNG PAN.
The most important events of the year of Polish Geography included the celebrations on January 27 related to the 100th anniversary of the Polish Geographical Society, which was established before our country gained independence.
On March 16-19, the Sejm of the Republic of Poland hosted an exhibition entitled “Polish geography, tradition and modernity” and on March 19, a conference was held entitled “The participation of Geography in the construction of independent Poland: yesterday-today-tomorrow”. The meeting was organized by the Polish Geographical Society and the Committee of Geographical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences. The exhibition and conference received the honorary patronage of the Speaker of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland. Over 120 people participated in the conference.
The Committee of Geographical Sciences of the Polish Academy of Sciences was also a co-organizer of the Congress of Polish Geography on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Polish Geographical Society and the 100th anniversary of Warsaw Geography, which took place on April 12-14 at the University of Warsaw.
